I've recently written my first Ghazal. I've been in the midst of a fiction craze, though. So I hope a true reader will enjoy what I've done here.
I'll Rest When The Critics Recommend
-C.M. Sarvis
When I know the revisions have come to an end, I'll rest.
When I've established a story all can comprehend, I'll rest.
I sit on buses to jot down believable conversation.
When my dialogue has forced the plot to thicken, I'll rest.
I watch movies and research the cliches I must ignore.
When I've created a path for writers to trend, I'll rest.
I read other authors. I copy style, tools, and craft.
When I've discovered my own voice has deepened, I'll rest.
I sit in my chair, thinking of a sweeping plot with no point.
When my character has lost his very best friend, I'll rest.
I look to develop my protagonist, establish his flaw.
When that detail grows and the story has ripened, I'll rest.
I've established two tensions, one acute and one chronic.
When their paths intersect for a disastrous blend, I'll rest.
Like a sonnet, I'm searching for a turn, a revelation of truth.
When my hero wakens and his eyes have opened, I'll rest.
I've sent my drafts to publishers nationwide.
When they accept just one or two stories I send, I'll rest.
I write and search to define the human condition.
When C.M. Sarvis is what the critics recommend, I'll rest.
